Parts work by far has been the integral part of my healing journey which spans 38 years now. I sought therapy at 17. I've had many kinds of therapy. I started IFS in 2021. I feel very integrated now.
It’s a reason why I do shadow coaching with my 1:1 clients now. Parts work can be part of it, and while I'm not a therapist, I make sure my clients work under a therapist while eplxploring with me. ♥️
Linnea —your latest essay is a layered invitation. You name the tension of "wholeness" so clearly: not a perfection to reach, not a false unity, rather a space where all that lives inside finds presence. That is a path I know well — and not an easy one.
When you write of the critic clutching its clipboard, or the numb part choosing absence, I see how easily these forms get read as faults, when they carry so much history. In my own journey, the shift came once I could stop questioning why these parts existed — and start asking what they protected, what they carried forward for me. Some of them still meet me warily, some now speak with an ease I once thought impossible.
I stayed with the meditation. It speaks a language of slow trust — and this, I find essential. Not smoothing, not rushing, not demanding anyone step aside.
When I reached the images, Opening was the card that found me: heal old stories, release self-judgment, practice loving self-talk, you are becoming your true self, you are limitless. That invitation lands here with both comfort and challenge. I notice how often these movements repeat — stories soften, return, soften again. Self-talk carries old traces, and the choice to speak new words remains a living task. The reminder of becoming — without rush, without verdict — meets me where I am.
In truth, all of our parts have value and are working to help us as best they can. Yes, slowness is absolutely required in order to communicate with and integrate the wisdom of the parts. I’m so glad you did the meditation exercise and found a message that was resonant with you. Opening makes a lot of sense given what I know do you. I hope it was restorative.

Wonderful Tess! Parts work is a powerful modality, and I am so glad that your clients have you to help coach them through it.
I want to build more connections with therapists who are prepared to go deeper with them.
I am one of those!
Good!
