The Space Between Science and Soul — Where Healing Actually Happens
"The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both.”
In a world that often forces us to choose between evidence and intuition, between scientific rigor and spiritual wisdom, there exists a fertile middle ground. A space where seemingly opposite truths can both be held, where the unexplainable and the empirical dance together in service of our deepest healing.
This is that space.
The Unanswerable Question
What is the mechanism of action for true healing?
This question has followed me through three careers, across continents, and through my own personal journey of trauma recovery. It's the question that led me from molecular biology research with a Nobel laureate to founding a multidisciplinary group psychotherapy practice, from marketing executive to medicine woman, from scientist to seeker.
It's also a question I've found impossible to answer solely through the lens of traditional psychology or conventional medicine; frameworks that are valuable but often stop precisely where the most profound healing begins.
I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in trauma, complex PTSD, and psychedelic assisted therapy. But those credentials only tell part of the story.
I'm also a trauma survivor, a chronic illness warrior, and someone who has lived the tension between my scientific mind and mystical heart. I've experienced the limitations of purely clinical approaches to suffering, and I've witnessed healing that defies our current scientific understanding.
At the Crossroads
Perhaps you've found yourself at this same intersection:
You've tried conventional therapeutic approaches and found them helpful but incomplete. Something deeper calls to you.
You've experienced moments of profound connection — with yourself, with nature, with something beyond naming — that transformed your relationship to pain.
You sense there's wisdom in your body, in your intuition, in the mystical traditions that science has yet to fully embrace.
You're tired of having to choose between evidence-based practices and soul-level exploration.
If so, you're not alone. I know there are more of us out there then it might seem. Let's challenge the taboo, shall we?
A Different Kind of Healing Space
How Healing Happens emerged from my growing recognition that the most profound healing often occurs outside the boundaries of what we can easily explain, yet doesn't require abandoning our critical thinking or evidence-based understanding.
After years of working with trauma survivors, journeying through my own healing, and walking between the worlds of science and spirituality, I've come to believe that integration is not only possible but essential.
“Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.
When we recognize our place in an immensity of light‐years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. So are our emotions in the presence of great art or music or literature, or acts of exemplary selfless courage such as those of Mohandas Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr.
The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both.”
~ Carl Sagan
Here's what you won't find here:
Quick fixes or prescriptive solutions that bypass the necessary depth work
Dismissal of scientific understanding in favor of pure mysticism
Clinical language that distances us from our lived experience
Spiritual bypassing that ignores the very real impacts of trauma on the nervous system
Instead, you'll discover:
Weekly essays exploring the interplay between neuroscience, psychology, and consciousness
Personal stories from my own messy, real healing journey offered in solidarity
Practical techniques for nervous system regulation and embodied presence
Explorations of non-ordinary states of consciousness as pathways to healing, including psychedelic medicines
A framework for understanding trauma that honors both its neurobiological impacts and its soul-level dimensions
The Bridge Between Worlds
Growing up on a farm in New England, I developed an early connection to the natural world, a sense of belonging that transcended my circumstances. I was always drawn to the mystical, though I didn't have words for it and I certainly wasn't encouraged to explore it.
Later, as I pursued my education in molecular biology and genetics, I realized I was still drawn to the mysteries that lay beyond. To me, the mystical has always been something that science hasn't gotten around to, or doesn't have the tools to examine.
“Magic's just science that we don't understand yet.”
~ Arthur C. Clarke
Working in pharmaceutical research satisfied my intellectual curiosity, but something essential was missing. That same emptiness followed me into corporate America, where success came easily but meaning and purpose remained elusive.
It wasn't until I began training as a psychotherapist that I found myself drawing upon both realms—the empirical and the intuitive—to help people heal from their deepest wounds. And it wasn't until I embraced my own healing journey, including experiences with non-ordinary states of consciousness, that I began to truly understand the limitations of our current paradigms.
An Invitation to the Circle
Healing doesn't happen in isolation. It happens in circles, in shared truths, in the spaces between us.
This publication is my offering to that circle. A place where we can explore together what it means to heal not just symptoms but souls.
I share reflections that bridge psychological understanding with deeper wisdom traditions and the patterns of Nature. These essays aren't meant to replace therapy or provide universal answers. Rather, they create a space for questions that matter:
How do we recover from pain?
How do we reconnect with our authentic selves?
How do we grow beyond the limitations life once placed around us?
The Journey
As we move forward together, each walking our own sacred path, we'll explore topics ranging from nervous system regulation to the nature of consciousness itself. We'll look at how trauma lives in the body and how healing emerges through relationship. We'll examine the false divides between science and spirituality, between individual and collective healing.
For now, I invite you to begin simply by reading, reflecting, and perhaps sharing your own wisdom in the comments. The circle grows stronger with each authentic voice.
"Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that is because, in the last analysis, we ourselves are part of nature and therefore part of the mystery that we are trying to solve."
~ Max Planck, Physicist
We are, indeed, part of the mystery. Our healing journeys don't just reveal who we are—they help create who we become.
Whether you're healing emotional pain, exploring consciousness, or simply curious about the mechanisms of true transformation, there's a place for you in the circle.

Hi everyone, I’m Jasper (they/them). I believe the universe brought me to you, Linnea. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
I’m a trauma survivor and I am feeling extremely vulnerable, but I’m so happy to be here.
Thank you for this… conventional medicine has helped me, but I feel something is missing. I understand the trauma wound in my head, but connecting to it and working with it, well that goes beyond most of the medical help I have gotten. It is comforting to know that others are out there and I am not alone. Again thank you for your kindness 🧚♂️
